Technically with radio buttons you can't leave it unanswered (unless
there's a third radio button for "no answer", which is different from
the situation described above).  One of the buttons is always
selected.  Most implementations (browsers) mark the first one by
default.  I don't suppose we want to put either gender in the position
of being marked by default, since it would be wrong for about half the
population.

With a dropdown box, a blank or "--" default answer is customary (even
for required fields in many cases).  I suppose we could have a default
radio button labelled along the lines of "no answer", but it would
probably strike some people as unusual.
