Hi all <br>
<br>
For the Beta site, I have an idea for using <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">trackbacks</span> as a more comprehensive "External Sources." <br>
Please refer to the attached visual concept and continue reading.<br>
<br>
Idea Summary: Use <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">Trackbacks</span> as an External Sources form/data/information.<br>
<br>
I suggest we change the way we do external sourced <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">clipart</span> from the old <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">OCAL</span> site to this idea. John raised some valid points earlier about attribution and the <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">uploader</span> taking credit for <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">clipart</span> they didn't create. My own personal experiences on the old <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">OCAL</span>
site has shown a hole in the information used, gathered, or displayed
for external sources. Perhaps this information is used in the old <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">OCAL</span> <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">metadata</span>, but I don't see it anywhere on the old site. The missing information is the location of the external source. There are quite a number of <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">cliparts</span> that have external source tags, but don't show where they come from. John and <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">Papapishu</span> have been great in putting a link to the external source in the description, but most other <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">uploaders</span> don't bother, and only add the <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">externalsource</span>
tag. You also need to know a little of HTML to be able to make a good
link in the description, which might scare a few people off doing it
properly.<br>
<br>Suggested procedure for external sourced clipart: Upload the clipart as a normal one, via the Upload page. After it's uploaded, use the Trackback/External Sources Javascript found underneath the clipart in the gallery view, to generate the external sources info. <br>
<br>
<span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">Trackbacks/External Sources</span> on the BETA <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">OCAL</span> are fairly easy to use for the Joe Public User. It's a click and <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">copy'n'paste</span>, found in the Javascript <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">clipart</span> properties button underneath any <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">clipart</span> thumbnail. The word "<span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">Trackback</span>" in any place could be changed to External Source, since that is what they are. On the External Sources page of a <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">clipart</span>,
the only important info (I believe) is the locations where it is found
- the rest is optional or informative only. I think this idea would go
really well with <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">Wikipedia</span> Commons <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">cliparts</span>, and other <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">clipart</span> collection sites.<br>
<br>
<span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">Clipart</span> Details page should have a link to the <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">clipart</span> External Sources page, and links to the places where it is found.<br>
<br>
<span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">Clipart</span> External Sources page should list all "<span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">trackbacks</span>" that have been created for that <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="goog-spellcheck-word">clipart</span>.
Additional data I would ask for, but is not necessary is the person's
name who found the external source. It could just as easily be left off
the listings. The clipart name next to the External Sources title
should link back to the Clipart Details page. <br>
<br>
Any feedback or criticism of the idea welcome. The other thing I'd ask for is an indication from the technical guys, how easy this would be to implement.<br>
