Lol Jon. It's been there since April 09! Lol is all I can say to that.

Anyway, It wouldn't be hard to keep that up-to-date, now that the wiki software has been updated.
Make a wiki bot, that does some sql reading's,, is registered with our wiki,
viola! an auto page that stays updated constantly, showing every tag used on our site. (Could even have the overall list somewhere on the OCAL website, and have the wikibot import the list to the wiki from there! Easy!)

Adding the translation aspect, you could choose which language you wanted to display, and have the tag list in your own language.
I see some very useful things coming out of a combination of these two tools.

RE : TRANSLATION
Some thoughts.

I think it would be nice to have a whole bunch of world flag icons somewhere, that you can click on. (These would possibly be up at the top of the header where the BETA sign is now... for easy selection, or in the user preferences page for global settings.) Until all the flags are drawn up, it would be possible just through a drop down language list - (of those languages currently supported?). (Or of every language, relying on uploaders to fill it out as we go?)

These select the language that you want to display OCAL in.

Using php/ajax/replacement-thingies, we can have the same interface (i.e. don't need to make separate page or separate clipart for each language) and just use the database for the tag lists.

Depending on what language you have set, this will load the selected languages tag list into the screen. This means that it can be tagged language for each clipart.

In database terms I'm imagining this kind of thing:

Whiteboard example

Google Spreadsheet Example

However there are problems with this model, not the least of which, what happens when there is no english version? How do we set a default version? How do we change that at a later date if we need to?
Instead of having 4 versions of one clipart, can we make it one clipart, with different applied tag lists? (Which is just text.)

Last question, Do you think it's a good idea to give every registered user the ability to edit all tag lists, descriptions, and clipart title?I think so. It take away the burden of editing that is on the librarians. In effect, everyone can become a librarian. Admins would have the ability to reduce any trouble-makers to non-editing priviliges, but I think having everyone as a librarian would do more good than bad. This would produce more eyes on the clipart, and more contributors to making things correct.

Dunno. Just rambling now.

On Fri, May 7, 2010 at 6:54 AM, Jon Phillips <jon@rejon.org> wrote:
