It is possible to fight back automatically. Some wiki engines (like e.g.
MoinMoin) maintain a list of know "bad urls" and block any attempt to
post them. The list is maintained globally and replicated to an
individual installation.

Doesn't prevent anyone from entering arbitrary content, but makes the
wiki useless (and thus non-interesting) for spammers who do this for a
living.
