Spectros do often produce 16 (or more) samples but I suspect this is 4 channels for CMYK, 6 for CcMmYK or hexachrome, and more for spot channels.

Yes, doesn't it all depend on what tone mapping operation is being used? The visual appearance could be radically different, anywhere from totally black to totally while as a LDR representation.
