The .indd file format isn't public, AFAIK - but since I am attending the Creative Suite Developers Conference today - I will double check!

What _IS_ available to you and should be under an acceptable license (and if not, let me know and I'll get it fixed!) is the .indx format (aka IDML) which is the XML+ZIP-based file format used by CS4 and CS5 for document interchange with other products, including our own.

I would recommend that if you plan to add support for InDesign to some other product (eg. Scribus), go with .indx.

Leonard

On Sun, May 2, 2010 at 2:24 PM, Alexandre Prokoudine <alexandre.prokoudine@gmail.com> wrote:
This is a question for Leonard, I guess. But since I'd like to see a
public reply, I'm posting to CREATE.

I'm reading http://www.adobe.com/devnet/indesign/sdk/eula_cs4.html
right now, specifically "6. OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE." section which
states:

"Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, You are not licensed to
(and You agree that You will not) integrate or use this SDK with any
Open Source Software or otherwise take any action that could require
disclosure, distribution, or licensing of all or any part of the SDK
in source code form, for the purpose of making derivative works, or at
no charge."

Does it cover .indd file format specification if there is one inside the SDK?

The use case I'm talking about is implementing an open source plug-in
for an open source software that would open/save .indd files.
