For some reason when I get a name project in my headspace I can't help but hack at it.

So my mind was tumbling on it, and I stumbled across the combination of: Free Design Foundation. I suggest this because it seems to keep the coverage to the topics I saw covered at LGM (Bigups to all the people I met in the BXL!). Not only that, it's actually touch more properly inclusive considering the degree of typographic discussion that was carried out at LGM. And perhaps inspiring more?

I really liked Allesandro's notion of a name that is not simply
descriptive but inspirational. 'Something with fantasy', if I recall his
words correctly. I hope my suggestion fits this standard. If not, I'll
be back with more :)

= Research =
Domain is owned by some asshats named BuyDomains. They want $2,520.
http://www.buydomains.com/find-premium-domains/search-results.jsp?keywords=freedesign.org&searchBtn.x=0&searchBtn.y=0

An obstacle, yes. But also a potential rallying cry? A slashdot fund drive away, I'd expect ;)

= On Another Note =
Seeing the Blender Institute's presentation on Saturday night really drove home how incredibly powerful the backing of a foundation is. I really think there is a lot of power here. Thanks to all of you who have contributed all this incredible code over the years, the time has come where the capacities of the softwares are undeniable. A foundation providing the sort of stimulus we saw demonstrated could change the landscape of the design
community.

However, this project of a foundation really amps my up! Glad I had the luck to type the notes for the BoF. But unlike (many of) you, I've never had a code project worth distributing (it's all
vaporware :/ ). I may not be such a great code hacker, but I love free software with all my heart. In other words, I want to help make this happen.

Cheers,
John Haltiwanger

I can imagine there is a problem with "artists"; there are many that
would consider themselves more as coders (even if coding is an art, too
:P) I guess.
