Silicon Valley's Iranian Christians Celebrate Persian New Year; Traditional
Community 'No Ruz' will be Broadcast Live into Iran Devine Impact
Corporation The Iranian Christian
Church, under the auspices of International Antioch Ministries (IAM), will
host a traditional Persian New Year ("No Ruz") celebration on Sunday, March
25th, at The Iranian Christian Church in Sunnyvale, Calif. Open to the
community, media are cordially invited to attend this traditional
celebration with authentic dancing, music, cultural displays and delicious
Persian food. There will be a live feed of the festivities into Iran via
satellite TV.
No Ruz or "New Day" is an ancient holiday that pre-dates Cyrus the
Great, king of
Persia, who reigned from 580-529 BCE and is mentioned in the Bible
as God's anointed (Isaiah 45:1). Cyrus freed the Hebrew captives from exile
in Babylon, allowing them to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the Temple,
which is well documented in the Bible as well as in history (Ezra 1; 2
Chronicles 36:22-23). For over 2500 years, on March 21st, Iranians have
commemorated this time of renewal which occurs during the vernal equinox, or
spring solstice, with a variety of rituals. These include a table called the
"Haft Seen" with seven objects that begin with the letter "S," as well as
other objects such as painted eggs, a mirror, goldfish and candles. The
meaning of much of No Ruz's ancient traditions are lost in the mists of
time, but it is a much beloved family and community holiday that has
survived invasion, foreign rule and Iran's Islamic revolution.
Pastor Hormoz Shariat,
president of IAM and senior pastor of The Iranian Christian Church
said,
"We are delighted to invite the community to share in our traditional
celebration of Iranian New Year. This No Ruz celebration is our contribution
to the diversity of the Silicon Valley and San Francisco Bay Area. We are
grateful for the freedom that we enjoy to celebrate our ancient holiday.
Thus, we will be broadcasting into Iran live coverage of the festivities, so
that our brothers and sisters in Iran, who celebrate No Ruz under Iranian
Islamic government disapproval, can benefit from our ability to freely enjoy
No Ruz. Viewers in Iran will be able to participate in the morning's
fellowship, which is led equally by female and male pastors, and then share
in our No Ruz festivities from the safety of their homes via our live
broadcast over satellite TV."
On the "Haft Seen" Table at The Iranian Christian Church
1. Seeb (apple): fragrant and succulent symbol of freshness
2. Seer (garlic): symbol of physical healing and protection; passing of
calamity
3. Sairkeh (vinegar) and Sumac: for the spice of life
4. Sabzeh (wheat grass): symbol of a fresh and pleasant life
5. Saikeh (coin): prosperity, richness and possessions
6. Samanou (wheat paste): increase and growth in life
7. Sainjedd (a kind of dry fruit): symbol of love and kindness
There will also be colored eggs to represent new beginning; candles, for
light (and goodness); blossomed branches and flowers (tulips and hyacinths)
for life and freshness, as well as goldfish and a mirror ? probably
symbolizing blessings, fertility and prosperity.

Offers A Powerful Way To Experience The Bible By Reenacting
Reality-TV-Style Scenes On Location In Israel

"As It Was" DVD Video Series Offers A Powerful Way To Experience The Bible
By Reenacting Reality-TV-Style Scenes On Location In Israel Youth groups,
churches, home schooled students and others will be able to experience the
Bible in ways never before seen. This is made possible thanks to an
innovative and powerful technique of relating Bible stories from the
perspective of those who lived it in the DVD series "As It Was," offered by
ZRG Productions, Inc. a film production company with offices in San
Francisco, California and Tel Aviv, Israel.
"The 'As It Was' series uses Israeli actors playing the parts of their
ancestors to weave the elements of each story into a powerful dialogue that
captivates the audience and leaves them wanting more," says Dana Simons, ZRG
Director of Church and Ministry Programs. "Rather than a dramatization, like
other Bible movies, we found that a documentary style was much more
effective for engaging younger viewers because it mirrors the 'real life' TV
style they are accustomed to watching."
"As It Was" employs a riveting eyewitness interview technique of filming and
acting to relate Bible stories in an accurate, passionate and intriguing
method that entertains, educates and inspires further study of the Old
Testament. ZRG Productions' initial product release includes four DVDs in a
Faith and Failure series that are approximately 30 minutes in length and
cover the stories of Samson, Elijah, Ruth and Jephthah. Each episode is
offered in Hebrew, with options for subtitles in English or Spanish or in
English and Spanish dubbed versions. A free downloadable study guide is
included with each episode to assist in making the DVD series a valuable
tool for schools and small groups. In addition, ZRG is developing a
curriculum that can be used by church groups or home school educators to
teach the Bible.
"We have become such a video-oriented and interactive on demand society.
Imagine how the Bible comes alive by filming its stories on the very
locations where they occurred and by using actors that can relate to today's
audiences," says Simons. "This is really the next best thing to experiencing
it first hand."
ZRG Productions plans to release an additional 4-6 DVDs every six months
with a total of 32 planned. The next set scheduled to be released is "The
Patriarchs", which will include episodes on Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph
and will be available in spring of 2007.

Subject: [Ctd] DevineImpact Corporation - Church Sound System and Church
Sound Systems
Message-ID: <19de303e0708040458t5166ee35m3be2c9e0b0613660@mail.gmail.com>
Church Sound System and Church Sound Systems
A church sound system is a crucial thing to almost any place where people
gather to worship on Sunday mornings. Church sound systems help people hear
and understand better what is going on. A church sound system can also be a
great thing for special programs, slide shows, and skits as they are being
put on by different members of the church. Church sound systems can be
purchased through many venues and are used for many things. The best thing
to know is what kind of church do you have and then you will know what
church sound system will work best for you.
A church sound system for a smaller church is less tricky to work with. If
you are a church of about 10 to 500 people, you probably need a smaller
church sound system. Church sound systems come in a lot of varieties. Church
sound systems that would work best for your church would be ones that do not
need to do much. You need to examine what kind of special things your church
does. If you only need the system for your worship team, then you need a
smaller system. However, if you like to do skits and slide shows, then you
need to think more intricately.
A church sound system for a larger church is when it becomes more
complicated. In between churches (those that are not tiny but not mega
either) need to look for a church sound system that will support a choir and
worship team. These church sound systems also need to have the technical
support for those that want to do skits and plays also. Church sound systems
for these types of churches will need to support a lot, depending on what
kind of special activities are planned for you church.
A church sound system for a mega church (thousands) is the hardest to find.
These huge churches will probably need several church sound systems in order
to support different areas of the church. This is when you are getting into
the prospect of church sound systems even for the nursery. But the bottom
line when doing church business is that you do not stray from the fact that
you were created for worship first. "And be not conformed to this world; but
be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is
that good, and acceptable; and perfect will of God". (Romans 12:2)

A Heavenly Refuge for a Romantic Honeymoon
There are some heavenly places where a picture is worth a thousand words.
Manihi, where palm trees languish and white-sand beaches abound, bathed in
the South Seas emerald water, is the perfect of all such places.
The islands that make up the Tuamotus are low lying, dry and very different
from the mountainous islands of Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora. The coral
rings surround a lagoon and offer beautiful colors and clear waters. Manihi
is a small remote hideaway located 330 miles from Tahiti. Most of the 450
inhabitants live in the village of Turipaoa, so privacy is easily attained.
My favorite, if not the only, resort on the island is the Manihi Pearl Beach
Resort. It is a refuge for those seeking to "truly get away from it all."
The hotel offers a choice of beachfront and overwater bungalows and is a
member of the Select Hotels and Resorts International. There is a PADI
certified dive shop on property that will take you to the world renowned
dive sites famous for manta ray. Guests can enjoy unique activities such as
hand line fishing, picnic motus, black pearl farm visits, and drift
snorkeling or relaxing treatments at Manea Spa. It is the only place I know
of where you can ride your bike on the airport tarmac to view amazing
sunsets. Newly added to the activities is a night time walk to the this
tarmac for a view of the stars in the Southern Hemisphere.
The Manihi Pearl Beach Resort is an example of tasteful, traditional
Polynesian architecture using a mixture of the noblest materials: local
precious wood, bamboo, shells, pandanus and palm tree fronds. Bungalows come
in 4 categories. The Beach Bungalow and Premium Beach Bungalow are all
located on the beach. The Premium offers a view unobstructed by overwater
bungalows. The garden bungalows have an open air garden in the bathroom and
showers without walls. Each is free standing with a porch and hammock out in
front of it. Overwater bungalows are located at the edge of a reef. You can
jump right off your sundeck into the myriad blue and green water and snorkel
an area filled with exotic fish.
Snorkel equipment is complimentary along with outrigger canoes to explore
the bountiful water life. Tahitian TV (glass bottom coffee tables) makes
this the best spot for discovering the multi-colored underwater world of the
lagoon. The infinity pool will give you hours of relaxation watching the
ocean view in front of you.

Subject: [Ctd] Invent Tech - Key HIV/AIDS Drug Patents To Be Reviewed By
U.S. Patent Office
Message-ID: <19de303e0708070850g3c4c9667w679431c3bd2e792e@mail.gmail.com>
Key HIV/AIDS Drug Patents To Be Reviewed By U.S. Patent Office
The Public Patent Foundation ("PUBPAT") announced today that the U.S. Patent
& Trademark Office has granted each of PUBPAT's requests to review four key
HIV/AIDS drug patents held by Gilead Sciences, Inc. The patents relate to
the drug known generically as tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), a key
weapon in the battle against HIV/AIDS. Gilead markets TDF in the United
States under the brand name VIREAD and as a part of its ATRIPLA combination
product.
Roughly 40 million people worldwide are infected with HIV/AIDS, including
more than 1.2 million Americans. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will
not allow anyone other than Gilead distribute TDF in the United States
because Gilead claims the four challenged patents give them the exclusive
right to do so.
"Every person suffering from HIV/AIDS has a right to get the best medical
treatment science can offer, without any unjustified impediments placed in
their way," said Dan Ravicher, PUBPAT's Executive Director. "This includes
Americans infected with HIV/AIDS, who are entitled to the best
pharmaceuticals possible without undeserved patents making them exorbitantly
expensive."
In its March filings challenging the patents, PUBPAT submitted prior art
that the Patent Office did not review before granting the patents to the
Foster City, California, biopharmaceutical giant. PUBPAT also described in
detail how the prior art invalidates the patents. The Patent Office has now
found that PUBPAT's filings indeed raised "substantial questions" regarding
the validity of each of the four Gilead Sciences patents. Having granted
PUBPAT's requests to review each of the patents, the Patent Office will now
turn to deciding whether they deserve to exist or not.
"We are very pleased that the Patent Office has agreed with us that there
are indeed significant questions about the validity of the Gilead patents on
TDF," said Ravicher. "This is a very strong first step towards ending the
harm being caused to the public by Gilead's use of those patents to prevent
anyone else from offering TDF to HIV/AIDS patients in the United States."
The Gilead Sciences TDF patents challenged by PUBPAT now being reviewed by
the Patent Office are U.S. Patents No. 5,922,695, 5,935,946, 5,977,089 and
6,043,230. Gilead has applied for similar patents on TDF in other countries
throughout the world, including India, where they have received fierce
opposition by non-profit AIDS patient groups.

Subject: [Ctd] Raven Media - Ancient Inventions and Anthropology
Message-ID: <19de303e0708071138i2053cfeasb3ebaeea60f39ec9@mail.gmail.com>
Ancient Inventions and Anthropology
*ANCIENT INVENTIONS:* - In Alexandria and in the Cave of Hathor there appear
to be reasons to believe we had electricity. There is no doubt that
fraudulent traders were using electrum plating techniques to make gold plate
on other metals to sell as pure gold. Some think the cave drawings show
electrical wiring conduits, and I think it might be phosphorous slush in
hoses to make the light by which the cave was painted by artists. There are
professors who would have us believe the reason there is no carbon deposits
from oil or wax burning lamps has to do with blind artisans. Thales had a
small steam engine, the lighthouse at Alexandria and their tri-level
sea-going ships, slot machines and other things lead the authors of Ancient
Inventions to say they could build anything we could build until the
mid-20th century. They detail the skill of port construction and many other
things. There is much more than they talk about for us to re-learn or know,
and many whole disciplines or things we've not yet re-discovered.
*ANTHROPOLOGY:* - There are so many examples of forced 'direct inference'
theorization rather than 'observation and conclusion' to fit all facts in
every area of science. Anthropologists in Polynesia kept telling the native
people that they came from S. E. Asia despite the native assertions that
they came from South America or even the Nootka/Haida nation of the Pacific
Northwest. Thor Heyerdahl proved the natives were correct. The lack of
willingness to accept that humans were inventive and ingenious enough to
create rafts is nearly funny. There is botanical proof that Hawaii's
vegetation is not all indigenous and came from the Caroline Islands of 1500
miles away. A cable TV documentary showed how the rites of the Caroline
Islanders involve a bailing kind of movement and they established that as
long ago as 150,000 BC these islanders traveled to Hawaii on huge rafts with
outriggers. The jungles' vines and logs would make a raft in even the
earliest times of hominid development.
The anthropologists as a whole are more open-minded despite having made many
judgement errors that conventional thinking and the funding process have
contributed to in a big way. We are constantly finding the facts and
opinions of what academia calls mavericks are able to enlighten the past in
all disciplines of anthropology and archaeology. Gimbutas and Campbell have
followed a long line of independent thought from Humboldt and Hawkes through
Petrie and Marshack. In the end they have brought mythology to the
foreground through the use of techniques like the space photos and now we
have solid state chemistry and genetics to blaze new trails. There is still
a lot of small-minded provincial 'pissing-contests' between the differing
disciplines but there are a lot of exciting things being achieved. The cases
of researchers spending up to twenty years working and living with natives,
who tell them what they want to hear because they are gracious and kind, are
numerous. (6) The value systems of our researchers who want to position
themselves and the Euro-Centric financial backers as more civilized are rife
in the annals of what some say is far from a science.
When a native group being held under academic scrutiny and subject to
logical linear mindsets actually is able to educate the 'experts' about
their culture it is the exception. Often such things are not funded because
the data doesn't 'fit' the prevailing literature. Carlos Castaneda was an
anthropologist from UCLA who made a major breakthrough on his own. Even his
debunkers have to admit he has brought a great deal of insight to the field
as a whole. Dr. Wayne Dyer owes a great deal of the thought involved in his
You'll See it, When You Believe It! to the work of Carlos Castaneda and his
Toltec mentor Don Juan. It is possible that all of our research into human
behavior has more to learn than we think we already know. That might mean we
are wrong about many key things. One of the most obvious things that our
cultural bias foists upon the data is the relative importance we place on
intellect rather than spirit.

Subject: [Ctd] Video Professor - The Role of Computers in the Family Home
Message-ID: <19de303e0708071355v625dd963j8a15447f1748de14@mail.gmail.com>
*The Role of Computers in the Family Home*
A recent study revealed that computers are having a positive impact on
family interaction. Family members use computers to keep in touch with each
other throughout the day, and to participate in fun learning activities
jointly. Unlike television, the computer is an interactive tool, one that
prompts responses from the user. The interactive nature of the personal
computer allows family members to collaborate in researching and solving
problems, playing games, designing projects, planning trips?the
possibilities are nearly endless. Because computers also increase the
educational and financial opportunities of families?by providing easy access
to myriad resources?they also enable families to enjoy an improved quality
of life.
Take a look at these common uses for computers in the family home:
-
- Doing Homework
- Playing Games
- Paying Bills
- Planning Trips
- Researching health issues
- Taking online courses
- Using computer learning tutorials
- Sending photos and emails to extended family
- Surfing the Web
- Family budgeting
- Shopping
Families point out a number of advantages to having a computer in the family
home:
- Parents can monitor their children's schoolwork, and help them with
their homework.
- Kids tend to get better grades.
- Parents pursue more education thanks to the convenience,
affordability, and accessibility of online learning.
- Parents find tools for managing their financial resources, such as
budgeting software, online investment services, credit counseling, tuition
aid, grants, and scholarships.
- Husbands and wives can easily and privately communicate throughout
the workday, using email or instant messaging.
- Children can send photos and drawings to their grandparents.
- Faraway family members can see each other with a Web camera.
- Families can spend quality time together playing games and working
on projects.
When it comes to incorporating computers into your family life, it's
important to strike a balance. As we all know, getting too much of a good
thing tends to negate the positive effects. Kids and adults who spend an
excessive amount of time on the computer see a decline in physical fitness
as well as social aptitude. That's why limiting your children's computer
usage is no less than necessary. That doesn't just mean putting a cap on the
time they spend sitting in front of the computer, it also means installing
software that blocks their access to age inappropriate content. Likewise, as
a parent it's also your responsibility to guard your kids against online
interaction with adult strangers. So, don't forget to monitor you kids'
computer habits, and make an effort to practice moderation yourself!
If you're looking for a fun and educational computer activity to share with
your spouse and kids, Video Professor may have just what you're looking for.
Video Professor, headed by CEO John Scherer, produces a huge assortment of
computer learning tutorials. Each Video Professor tutorial presents three
lessons on CD-ROM. The lessons included in Video Professor's tutorials
increase in difficulty but are so easy to follow that most kids can make
their way successfully through all three lessons. Video Professor's
self-paced learning tutorials allow you and your family member to stop,
start, pause, and rewind. Choose to learn quickly or set a more leisurely
pace. What makes Video Professor learning so much fun for everyone in the
family? It's the combination of humorous storylines, whimsical graphics, and
hands-on practice with the program you've chosen to learn. For 20 years,
Video Professor has been the preferred choice of computer learners from kids
to adults, in all walks of life.

Subject: [Ctd] John Brewington - The Corporation and Its Guts - the By Laws
Message-ID: <19de303e0708080842i3b3284b6pfb1988a914b00b20@mail.gmail.com>
If you are an aspiring businessperson or a newbie in any sort of business
then you have to know abut the corporation and its By Laws, which is said to
be the guts of the corporation.
In simple terms, a corporation is one of the various forms of a business
entity. If you are already deep into the study of business and business law,
then you probably know all about this.
However, there may be several particulars, which you are not yet too
knowledgeable about. This article aims to delve a little deeper into these
certain particulars.
If we do not know about it yet, the corporation is an entity separate from
the person or group of persons who are forming it. The corporation has the
same legal rights, too under the law. It can also engage in contracts,
agreements and claim constitutional rights. However, as much as everybody,
the corporation also must pay taxes.
The only difference of a corporation from us, humans, is that corporations
get to "live" for up to 100 years, even 200 years and more. Even some kind
of corporations is in existence as far back as the time of the Ancient Rome.
Microsoft cannot be known as the first corporation, despite it's having
gladiator inclinations towards other corporations.
Nowadays, the creation of corporations are authorized and governed
particularly by the state law. The State of New York was the first to adopt
laws that authorize the existence or formation or corporations. This was in
year 1811. As the other states were formed, the laws that authorize
corporate entities also became a customary practice.
As of the present times, every state can authorize the formation of
corporations.
In each state jurisdiction, the Secretary of State is the one who have
control over the process of incorporation. As much like individuals,
corporations are also considered as "residents" of a certain state wherein
they retain offices, hire employees, receive mail and do other activities
according to the law. Even if a corporation also conducts business operation
in other states, they remain on one state where they hold their main
operations.
In the state where they are incorporated, corporations are considered as
"domestic entities." Meanwhile, in all other states where they may do
business operations, they are considered as "foreign entities."
If there is a body and a head, a corporation, like a human being also has
the guts. Moreover, what is considered as the guts of a corporation? Its By
Laws.
In forming a corporation, most states provide forms to fill up and makes the
process becomes relatively painless. However, concerning the corporation's
bylaws, a ready " to fill " up form is not applicable.
Bylaws comprise the technical rules governing the ways and means a
corporation must be run. Bylaws are private documents of the corporation and
need not be filed with any government office. The objective of the bylaw is
to set up how organizational activities like board meetings, voting and
sharing of transfers would transpire within the corporation.
In a corporate book, the bylaws are the biggest and most important document
in it. The bylaws tend to be straightforward if the corporation has an
entity of a single shareholder since the possibility of having disputes may
not arise.
However, if two or more shareholders exist in the corporation then the
bylaws documents may become a fundamental item since it would detail the
voting rights and others.
Here are the following issues tackled in typical bylaws documents:
- meeting of the Board of Directors - Notice of Meeting Schedules - Voting
Quorum - Yearly Meetings - Special Meetings - Right to Vote - Rights to
Transfer of Share issues - Members of the Board of Directors - Bylaws
Amendments - Board Member Removal
Other provisions can also be added into the corporation's bylaws. It is best
to discuss the important provisions to a corporate attorney for its legal
implications before having it approved and implemented.
Lala C. Ballatan a.k.a Kay Zetkin discovered the pleasure of writing
through her daily journals way back when she was 10. With writing, she felt
freedom to express her viewpoints and assert it, to bring out all concerns
-- imagined and observed, to bear witness.

Subject: [Ctd] Dr William Boothe - Five Things about LASIK eye surgery
Message-ID: <19de303e0708240702h34ce240am84bd9d40ebdc0c35@mail.gmail.com>
LASIK eye surgery has helped millions globally to see better without using
glasses or contact lenses. It is the most popular refractive surgical
procedure because there is little or no pain and restored vision occur the
next day. LASIK is an acronym for laser assisted in- situ keratomileusis.
Five things you should know before committing to LASIK eye surgery are
listed below. 1. What is LASIK? It is a refractory surgery procedure for
correcting near and far sightedness. During the procedure a thin flap is
created either by a cutting instrument called microkeratome or by the newer
IntraLase laser. The surgeon lifts the flap, then removes (ablates) the
required corneal tissue with an excimer laser to reshape the cornea.
The flap is then replaced over the area where the tissue was ablated. This
flap acts as bandage over the treated cornea. The doctor performing the
procedure uses a computer to calculate and adjust the laser for the
particular refractive problem.
2. What to do before LASIK eye surgery? If you are seriously considering
this procedure, the most important thing to do is find a reputable and
experienced eye surgeon. A good surgeon reduces the risks of complications.
The eye specialist will examine you to determine your visual defect, and the
level of laser ablation necessary.
If you have dry eye disease, treatment will be necessary before the
procedure.A map of the cornea will be created by a corneal topographer, and
you may have a wave front analysis that precisely maps out the area of
visual refractive defect. Your doctor will assess your general health and
medication and decide whether you qualify on health grounds for LASIK eye
surgery.
If you are not offered a patient information booklet, ask for one. Before
LASIK treatment you should know what to expect after the procedure. You are
more likely to be satisfied if before treatment, you know the outcome and
fully understand the risks and complications.
3. What happens during LASIK treatment? This treatment is short and you are
awake throughout. The surgeon may give you a mild sedative tablet before the
procedure. Even though you will walk out of the treatment centre, you should
be accompanied, to make sure you get home safely. The surgeon will put
anaesthetic drops into your eye, and while you lie down, he or she will
align the laser directly over your eye.
Your eye will be kept open and pressurised by a retainer with a suction
ring. The surgeon will mark out the area of the cornea. The flap is then
created either by a microkeratome or IntraLase laser. The flap is then
lifted. You will then be asked to focus on a light source while the excimer
laser delivers pulses of high beam light on to the cornea.
The laser will produce a consistent clicking sound during treatment. You may
note an acrid smell during treatment. The time taken depends on the extent
of your refractory problem. The flap is then replaced. You will then rest
for a while.
4. What are the complications? In the past, following LASIK eye surgery,
there were as much as 5 complain of dry eyes after LASIK eye
surgery.Mostdisappear after 6 months. Artificial tears will help.
There may be under
correction or over correction. Eye infection or irritation is uncommon but
will require treatment.
5. What to expect? During the assessment stage, make sure you know what you
should expect following surgery. You should expect 20/20 vision or better
but 20/40 or better is good enough to drive without glasses or contact
lenses. A study by US Military on 16,000 army personnel following LASIK eye
surgery, between 2000 and 2003 showed that 86 achieved 20/40 vision or
better. If the predicted outcome does not meet your expectation, then you
have to make an informed decision based on the expected results, risks and
cost.

Subject: [Ctd] Mike Paget - The Harris Law Firm in Denver Warns of Parental
Child Abductions
Message-ID: <19de303e0708301146p50d2f9c9x249a368e0ad8db1c@mail.gmail.com>
With nearly 1 million divorces every year nationwide, 10 million children
are living with a single parent who is separated or divorced. Divorce and
separation bring with them, custody issues and the potential risk of
parental child abduction . One in seven divorces involves child custody
battles, and more than 350,000 family abductions occur in the U.S. each year
- that is nearly 1,000 per day.
"With statistics like these, parents need to know how to protect themselves
and their children from abduction by the other parent," says Rich Harris,
president of The Harris Law Firm in Denver, Colorado. "Just because the
child is with a parent doesn't mean that these situations are not harmful to
the child."
A custodial abduction occurs when a child is removed from the home
jurisdiction in violation of an existing custody order. In the absence of an
existing order, there can be no custodial abduction and either parent is
within his or her right to take the child anywhere they choose.
The practical effect of this definition of custodial abduction is that
parties seeking to prevent abduction must file to obtain a custody order
before any legal action can be taken. If a parent takes a child against the
other parent's wishes before the entry of an order, it does not meet the
definition of abduction, and the remedies available to a parent are limited.
"Due to the highly emotional nature associated with family law matters,
separated or divorced parents need to take precautionary measures to prevent
this from happening to their child," said Harris.
Separated or divorced parents should consider the following safety measures
to help prevent possible parental child abduction:
- Retain originals of your child's birth certificate, and passport if
applicable
- Maintain current photographs of your child that can be easily
distributed via manual and electronic means
- Keep an updated written description of your child that includes hair
and eye color, height, weight, date of birth and other identifying
information such as glasses, contacts, braces, birthmarks, tattoos and/or
piercings
- Have your local law-enforcement agency fingerprint your child
- Provide written instructions to your child's school, day care center,
doctor's office, and other agencies associated with your child, not to
release your child or information about your child to unauthorized sources
- Teach young children to spell their full name and memorize their home
street address, city and state, and telephone number, with area code
- Show young children how to use the telephone (landline, cell phone, pay
phone) to make a collect call, reach the operator, and dial 911
Harris also recommends that the primary custodial parent obtain a court
order that clearly defines parenting time arrangements . The order should
specify the exact times and locations for the visitation and the exchange,
and require the written consent of the Court or the custodial parent, before
the non-custodial parent can take the child out of the area.
Parental child abduction can be a long and painful process for the child
and for the parent who has been left behind, with some cases taking up to
two years or longer to resolve.
"When parents and children learn together how these parental child
kidnappings occur, they can reduce the chances of it happening to them,"
said Harris.
Paying close attention to safety measures is important when dealing with
the possibility of a parental kidnapping. Being proactive may help prevent
this situation from happening to you.

Subject: [Ctd] =?windows-1252?q?Video_Professor_-_IT=92S_A_SNAP?=
Message-ID: <19de303e0708312300n31dff158n52e3c83e5361af0f@mail.gmail.com>
IT'S A SNAP
The office manager of a busy upscale dental practice was frantically
working overtime to train her temporary replacement. Every detail needed to
be in order--she didn't want anything overlooked. The office needed to run
like clockwork while she was gone. She didn't want the pampered patients to
even notice she was missing. But most of all, once she left for her
maternity leave, she didn't want to be disturbed. The manger wanted to focus
all her attention on her newborn baby, and savor every moment of it.
She also planned to handle the recording of every memorable event in
the baby's life like she approached everything else--with planned
thoroughness. This meant researching, then shopping for the best digital
camera out on the market. And to ensure that she knew how to properly handle
it (no red-eyed, grainy images of *her* newborn baby), she took a *Video
Professor* course on digital photography. Through *Video Professor,* she
learned everything there was to operating a digital camera.
One of the most important functions she learned was the steps involved
in properly editing her photos. She could crop them, enhance the colors, and
even remove imperfections (not that her beautiful baby would have any). And,
the manager now knew how to adjust the contrast, and even how to combine
images. She loved the fact that now she had learned digital photography with
the *Video Professor,* she wouldn't have to bother buying film, which could
get expensive, and then waste time taking it in to get processed. She could
instantly see which pictures she wanted to keep, and print them out herself.
Another great feature she learned through *Video Professor* was
E-mailing the baby's pictures to friends and relatives who lived out of
town. She planned on sharing all her infant's milestones (and ministones).
She couldn't imagine having to get multiple sets of prints made, and then
taking the time to snail mail them out to everyone. And through *Video
Professor,* she now knew how to burn her pics to CD and DVD, and how to
store them on the computer. This would ensure the integrity of her memories.
She remembered going through her family's old photographs which had been
stored in the attic, and how frayed and faded they had become. And she also
recalled that when her niece was a toddler, she got into her family's box of
home movies and virtually shredded them all. With digital, her pictures
would have unlimited longevity.
The Big Day was rapidly approaching. There was one more detail to take
care of--making sure her husband knew how to properly use their new digital
camera. Luckily, he was a techie and he picked up on her instruction fast.
Which was a good thing, as she had a short labor and the baby came fast. She
liked that. Efficient. Just like her. Same personality; same looks. It
appeared this motherhood thing was going to be a snap. And with her newly
acquired *Video Professor* photography knowledge, she planned on snapping
plenty of it.
