Object path values - which service do they belong to?

Hello,

  I see that I can pass/specify an object path as a method-parameter type, 
but how do I know what Service the given object is supposed to belong to?

  I could understand if the paths were supposed to be unique per-machine, 
but it seems only the service names are.
  So if someone passes me an object path '/SomeObject', how do I know 
where to send method calls?

  Sorry if this is obvious..
