Permission denied to bind to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket -- need some advise :-)

Hi everybody,

sorry if this seems like a newby question, but ...

I built dbus myself and everything works fine except that I can't start
the system bus from the startup scripts. If I start it manually with 

# dbus-daemon --system

if works. But at boot time I get something like the error message in the
topic of this mail. 

Now I expected my startup scripts to run as root -- am I wrong? And if I
am, could anybody please tell me how to help this situation?

PS. I'm running Fedora Core 4 and I'm building Gnome-2.12, that's why I
needed a newer version of dbus.
