D-Bus replies exceeded

Hi,

I have a Linux system with applications communicating with libdbus.

If an application misbehaves and fails to send an expected D-Bus reply to a message then eventually the dbus-daemon returns the following error to requests

org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.LimitsExceeded "The maximum number of pending replies per connection has been reached"

There's a bug in the receiving application but how can I make the caller tolerant of not receiving a reply?
Note that I am freeing pending responses with dbus_message_cancel and dbus_message_unref on a timeout but this does not help.

Thanks for any help you can give.
