I also have this problem. It only seems to be with Publisher & Powerpoint and
also only with Sans...
I have v2.11 of the font, XP pro sp 3 and office 2003. 
Imagine my embarrassment when, whilst trying to convince the charity I work for
to adopt the Deja Vu family, my presentation came out covered in missing glyph
boxes... not very convincing after all! Sans condensed, mono & light seem to
render fine.
