Yes, there are. Git is a very good tool for distributed source
development. But it is a very bad tool for storing versioned tarballs.
Imagine that every package maintainer would need to download gigabytes
by git clone just to make a simple change in the OpenOffice spec file.

That is why most vendors use dedicated storage for package sources.

Most code developers in SUSE use git, but package maintainers use
openSUSE Build Service to store their work.
