It's because KMS is limiting rendering to the refresh rate of your monitor to
avoid tearing.

I always thought the pts demo was not as good as the anholt one for openarena -
too long and mostly not enough going on so that the average fps gets pulled up
by easy scenes that are 100-200fps.
