<pre>I also had problem with this laptop.
I fixed it by enabling CSM in the BIOS.

I had the issue with mint 16/17
The screen was blank after grub until i successfully logged into an x session
(usually less then 10 retry to get there).
With debian wheezy (7.7 kernel 3.2) the issue manifest itself later on
It seems to me that it happens when the handover from frambuffer to the radeon
driver (with modesetting enabled) is done.
I issue was also present with fglrx on debian.
Since the change to the bios it all works correctly.
Now grub and the framebuffer are limited to an ungly 1024x768 but it works.
I can provide logs if that could be of any help.</pre>
