These same files play fine with totem-gstreamer-0.99.15.1-1.1.fc2.fr.i386.rpm.

Start with a Fresh FC2 install with all updates available via up2date
(kernel-2.6.7-1.494.2.2). Install gstreamer-ffmpeg-0.8.1-0.lvn.1.2.i386.rpm and
gstreamer-player-0.8.0-0.fdr.1.2.i386.rpm.

(both play fine with gstreamer totem but fail with X errors with gst-player)

run
gst-player div3.avi
click the play button and viola
The program 'gst-player' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 37 error_code 2 request_code 141 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Just FYI- totem was installed after gstreamer universe (which installed
gstreamer 0.8.5 and gstreamer plugins 0.8.3
