mix/max probing for period_count/period_size/buffer_size
it is a verbose version (remove the printf lines to have a silent one)
a(period_count), b(period_size), c(buffer_size)
1(before any probe), 2(after MIN probe), 3(after MAX probe), 4(final values)
applying non-verbose version to CVS now (shouldn't hurt)
if the bug is still present after this patch, it could be your driver that does
not report its capabilities properly
