No matter the media player (I have tried Quod Libet, Rhythmbox, Totem, Xine,
Banshee, Mplayer, etc), certain mp3 files encoded at VBR or at CBR 320kbps will
playback with intermittent clicking & popping sounds.

The quality of the mp3s is assured: they are ripped to the Uberstandard
(http://www.ubernet.org/?p=UberStandard), and play without clicks & pops
through foobar2000 & Winamp in Windows.

If it matters, I am using ALSA, within Ubuntu 6.06.
