That output means that you don't have libcheck installed, which should not stop
configure from completing - it just means you won't be able to run the
testsuite.

Compilation failure is unrelated, and means your install of GStreamer core is
not recent enough. You need either current CVS, or the 0.10.2.2 prerelease I
put up yesterday (or the 0.10.2.3 I'm about to put up)
