ratDVD takes a full featured DVD movie and puts it into a highly compressed
.ratDVD container format file - while preserving all the features of the
original DVD

Ratdvd is a format / media player for windows, but there seems to be no player
that can play the format on linux. Far as I can tell, the implementation is
(partially) open source, but the author is unable to port the code to linux.
His implementation seems to be heavily directshow-based. The installer comes
with some gpl'd code.

I'll see what else I can find out, there seems to be some interest in the
format, but the lack of documentation is somewhat unfortunate.
