Jan: I'd like to keep the bug open until a solution can be found. It's not
magically going away just because it depends on a fix upstream.

This bug lacks a little bit of technical information. 
Why is it not possible without modifications in alsa itself?
Has anyone tried to contact the alsa developers? I can contact them, but I'd
need a better, more detailed description of what's needed.
