YES! +1 from me.

The reason this hasn't happened yet is (IIRC) that no one has really tested the
non-mmap paths of filesrc properly (like with mounted NFS drives or the like).

I wonder if we have a test program somewhere that hammers filesrc a bit and
checks random access mode and push-mode etc.
