I didn't expect the patch to fix this, the patch just makes it fail earlier and
with a better error message.

Looks more like an esd/libesd issue to me though, we just open the connection
to the server and then do esd_get_server_info(), I don't think there's too much
we can do wrong here, unless this is expected to fail some times (which I find
hard to believe).
