Yup, i reinstated the gstreamer fedora repo, "yum update"'d  and then it played
okay. Incedentally, somebody in the Fedora IRC channel recommended I disabled
the gstreamer repo, is that sound advice? It pretty much led to this problem.
Might want to check with the Fedora Extras folks to determine the official
policy on this repo.
