erm another one. Could you use a #define to conditionally use one or the other
registry implementation?. Alternatively, what about making GstRegistryXML and
GstrRegistryBinary subclasses of GstRegistry and then turn 

gst_registry_read_cache
gst_registry_write_cache
gst_registry_file_extension

virtual methods.
