  GStreamer | gstreamer (core) | Ver: 0.10.14
Summary: gst-playbin opens device before it needs to
           Product: GStreamer
           Version: 0.10.14
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: Normal
         Component: gstreamer (core)
        AssignedTo: gstreamer-bugs at lists.sourceforge.net
        ReportedBy: notting at redhat.com
         QAContact: gstreamer-bugs at lists.sourceforge.net
     GNOME version: 2.19/2.20
   GNOME milestone: Unspecified

Please describe the problem:
When using totem-2.19.4, the audio device is opened immediately on startup,
even though no file is passed in. This causes ~50 unnecessary audio interrupts
per second (see http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=251534).

<hadess> notting: if so, it's gstreamer's playbin's fault

Ergo, filing here.

Steps to reproduce:
1. start totem
2. look at the open fds
3. watch interrupts with powertop

Actual results:
~50 interrupts per second from the sound card

Expected results:
No interrupts until I actually play something.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.
