I fully agree. That's the idea. 

If you accept the basic plugin (and the idea), I'll continue to work on it. I'd
like to have a confirmation that you will really accept a SMIL plugin in
GStreamer. I have the fealing that anything relating to stream management (i.e.
playlist support) is rejected by the core developers, therefore I'm a bit
careful.
