This sounds great.  Very useful for a lot of applications.

I kind of prefer an XML format.  It's not such a big dependency any more.  JSON
or YAML could be options too but they probably add a dependency that is less
attractive.

Note, I think the XML format on your wiki should include a reference to the
element (factory) for the preset.
