Other players (mplayer -vo xv, Totem with xine backend) seem to work fine in
the same environment though.

Though Totem with the GStreamer backend gives me a black window. You can make
the video appear if you grab hold of the title bar, but as soon as you let
go.... back to black.

I was going to file a Totem bug about this (since at least the video shows up
when running bare gst-launch)... what do you think?
