This was a new upgrade from 7.04 to 7.10 and I was checking utilities and
fixing previous problems such as no sound.

I added the line " options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 model=3stack " to the
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base file and rebooted ( as I did in 7.04 ). CD player
works now and I get sound.

The problem still exists that sound comes from both the external speakers and
the headphones though.
