At the least, you can use only public API in your _new() functions, and try to
use as little code in them as possible. In the extreme case, that probably
means using a public _construct() function. There's a simple example of that

Bug #539886 is unlikely to ever be implemented and I wouldn't want to wait for
it. However, it's not unreasonable to expect us (the C++ people) to provide a
