This is a packaging issue. Distros are free to package and name things as they
see fit (and they often do subdivide packages), so please file a bug with your
distro about this, it's not something we can help with.

If you play a file in totem and the appropriate codec isn't installed, it
should (hopefully) bring up a dialog that lets you install it. If that's not
the case, there may be a bug or it's a distro issue as well. Again, please take
that up with your distro. Same goes for the documentation page.

You will likely need the gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg package or somesuch, that should
play most WMV and WMA formats (but not all yet afaik).

For those it doesn't play, there's not that much we can do. You can try
gstreamer0.10-pitfdll+w32codecs, but we do not recommend or support that.

If you can provide us with a link to a specific media file/sample/stream, we
can check if it can be played in our setup and possibly make further
suggestions. Otherwise a ubuntu support forum might be of more help.
