gst-plugins-base is the most useless package to show as an example, to be
honest. If it's not installed, then you're screwed already.

What's the output for, say, gst-ffmpeg, or gst-plugins-bad?

You also don't seem to handle:
- multi-lib (how does one know if a particular provides is for 64-bit or
32-bit),
- or codec version (say, playing a WMV9 file and installing the right decoder).
Is that the case?
