Also, I can't reproduce it with alsasink, only with fakesink.

This doesn't show the debug line about the samples:
GST_DEBUG=audiorate:4 gst-launch audiotestsrc ! audiorate ! "audio/x-raw-int,
endianness=(int)1234, signed=(boolean)true, width=(int)16, depth=(int)16,
rate=(int)44100, channels=(int)1" ! alsasink

Replacing alsasink with fakesink shows it.
