The patch looks good in general but your forgot to add the implementsinterface
interface to the type, you only added the stream volume interface.


Using cubic volumes for GUIs is definitely a good idea, it "feels" more natural
and also all GNOME applications are currently doing that (and all pulseaudio
applications, you don't use PA on Solaris?).
