I am using ubuntu 10.04. I get following error, when trying to read from
firewire:

$ gst-launch dv1394src ! dvdemux name=demux ! dvdec ! xvimagesink
Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
ERROR: Pipeline doesn't want to pause.
ERROR: from element /GstPipeline:pipeline0/GstDV1394Src:dv1394src0: Could not

Note: kino can can see and capture from firewire camcorder without any problem.

Workaround: turn on camcorder before the computer. Such procedure is of course
annoying.

Note: forcing following modules at system boot (/etc/modules) does NOT do the
job:
raw1394
dv1394

best regards,
Pawel.
