Well, my first attempt was to set the duration of the seeksegment to -1, i.e.
to invalidate the duration. Patch is included in my first post above. That
solved the problem. Those few lines, perhaps combined with checking whether the
file size has changed, would solve the problem with ~350 lines less of code
than my last patch. Would that be OK?
