You can use g_printerr ("CAPS: %s", gst_caps_to_string(caps)) to print the
string (leaks though, but if it's just for debugging it doesn't matter I
guess).

This works fine on my big-endian powerbook with the latest versions btw, so
we'd really need to see the exact caps to figure out what's going on I think.
