This bug seems to have moved from one issue to the next, it's a bit confusing.
May I suggesting closing it an filing new bugs for any specific issues that
remain?

I believe the CAPS event in 1.0 should take care of at least the original
complaint, since it doesn't require buffer flow to announce the stream type to
downstream elements.
