Summary: audio/video: base classes have suboptimal error
handling when allocating a buffer not via a bufferpool
    Classification: Platform
           Product: GStreamer
           Version: git
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: major
          Priority: Normal
         Component: gst-plugins-base
        AssignedTo: gstreamer-bugs at lists.freedesktop.org
        ReportedBy: slomo at circular-chaos.org
         QAContact: gstreamer-bugs at lists.freedesktop.org
     GNOME version: ---

See summary, problem is that just NULL is returned and the subclasses a) expect
always to get a buffer currently and b) there's no way to report errors
properly here (are we flushing? did negotiation fail? what happened?)
