It has also been discovered by the submitter that replacing alsasink with
jackaudiosink one of the pipelines where alsasink has failed (started
studdering and eventually gone silent with 'sync=true'), the problem does not
occur with 'sync=true'.  JACK sits on top of ALSA and presumably uses the same
ALSA API that is being called by the alsasink plugin.
