I'm a bit confused. What exactly doesn't work? What does "MPEG4 *system stream*
to mpegpsdemux" mean?

This works fine for me:

 $ gst-launch-1.0 videotestsrc num-buffers=5000 ! avenc_mpeg4 ! mpegpsmux !
filesink location=mpeg4.ps

 $ gst-play-1.0 mpeg4.ps

Can you make a sample file available?
