I’ve been using Rhythmbox with Gstreamer and JACK and found it to be the best
sounding Linux playback solution out there. I’m hoping you will have DSD
playback capability soon. Now that DAC manufacturers, the major recording
studios have adopted DSD and users are hearing it's superior sounds quality
it’s expected to start catching on quickly as the dominant open-source format
for hi-resolution music files.

Windows players like Foobar and jRiver are already DSD compatible. MPD has
started developing some functionality for DSD, but I really don’t care for
using MPD. A friend from my local audio society does the DSD encoding for HD
Tracks and I could talk to him about advising you on the format if I can help.

Best regards,

Darin
