I've had the same bug on similar Intel hardware, but I've moved beyond this
point. I've got working audio out by applying the patches above, then disabling
the byte swap path in gst_alsasink_write. 

At this point it's not clear to me how the sink should correctly detect the
endianness that the driver requires for iec958 data.
