I've already written some code to replace the gst-mask stuff because I
wanted to be able to trace individual plugins without getting loads of
other tracing.

I wrote this back in february, and haven't updated against CVS for some
time now, but so far I haven't made many changes to core files anyway.

Anyway, I've attached what I wrote - it may be useful as a starting
point, a source of ideas, or just a way to bulk up the mailing list :-)

There's a description in the header file, so I wont write any more here.
