Async operations like gnome-vfs exports, basically.  So the scheduler
would e.g. ask gnomevfssrc to start a pull, and get notified when it's
complete.  The argument is that this is simpler than having a threadsafe
core; I'm not sure I agree or not yet, just trying to understand things.
