Yeah, but then again libtool really needs to be integrated well because
it replaces/extends a key operation in the make process.  For things
like gtk-doc the changes are a lot less invasive, and you can go a long
way with makefile includes if you take some hints from the autogenerated
Makefile bits based on Makefile.am

Kernel modules would be somewhere in between, and aren't too hard either
thanks to your .m4's

Anyway, this is gst-devel, not automake-wishlist, so I'll shut up now :)
