AFAIK we never specified whether those rules apply to -bad as well or
not (or did we?), so the assumption to make is that they apply. Whether
that should be changed or not is a different question.

In this case maintain backwards compatibility is trivial at a cost of an
extra 10 lines of code, so I thought it would be wise to do that (just
forgot to commit it until now).
