[gst-devel] GStreamer subtitle (transcoding) support

W.r.t. the subject as indicated, I would just like to point out here that there
is an API-addition proposal in http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=415754
that adds support for collecting/muxing sparse streams, most notably subtitles.
As an application of this, it also has patches/elements that cater for
overlaying VOB subtitles onto video, and for muxing subtitles into a Matroska
file.  In particular, this allows transcoding a DVD (along with subtitles) into
Matroska (which then seems to make this the only free U*x piece of software
capable of doing this, AFAIK).

As to the point of pointing out this item, it could do with some
feedback/comments on:
- whether it could make it in (the core) as it stands, or with mods, or ...
- further testing always useful
- if more or other API-functionality would be in order
