Animated .gif files are not supported?

AFAIK animated gif files are not supported. And as you have seen only the
first frame is displayed.

Tim wrote some time ago a patch to support animated gifs, but every single
frame had to be loaded to memory which potentially meant immense memory
usage. It was never pushed.

Why do you need this?
